Modern visitors of any event require comfort and a fast flow of information. BVV is the largest exhibition center in the Czech Republic and its digital presentation tools must match this fact. That's why we had started with a new app and gradually let it grow into a unified multifunctional system.
In the beginning, there was a mobile app
The exhibition center used to make individual apps for all events and fairs. It was an expensive and hardly sustainable concept. Therefore, in 2017 they addressed us with an assignment for a mobile application that would unify all events. And so we have designed and implemented an information integrating application which quickly gained popularity:
It displays the price of the tickets, opening hours and also parking spots,
Everyone can find any stand there and never get lost, users can use it to navigate themselves to a concrete point
It ensures good orientation in the list of the exhibitors and allows the users to make an appointment or to chat with them
In short, it contains all the important key parameters of any event. Before starting with the development itself, we had designed an administrative environment, which was preceded by an analysis of the state and structure of the previous systems. Thanks to our DactylCMS, we could interconnect all BVV systems in the way that the mobile application was able to obtain data from them, thus we ensured ourselves that it worked offline too.
It was relatively technically demanding to combine the requirements for using the application under the exhibitor's profile. A user with this profile had to be able to invite his colleagues to become exhibitors as well. At the same time, we have made sure that one exhibitor can have this role at several trade fairs and different exhibiting companies.
More platforms, one system
Satisfaction with the mobile application led our client to address us with another task. It was much more complex and demanding - it consisted in modernizing the information system of the trade fairs, exhibitors, etc. - ikatalog.bvv.cz. The intention was to create a comprehensive system consisting of various applications (both mobile and web) which would be connected to the client's information systems.
We built the system on the already mentioned DactylCMS, which serves as a backend environment for content management of a mobile application. We have gradually implemented into it the whole functionality of the content management of the new iCatalogue, which withdraws data information (about trade fairs) from the BVV internal system.
The latest contribution to the system is a web front-end used for entering and managing information from the visitors of the Life! festival. Based on the entered password, this platform can identify the form that should be displayed to the user, and he can then enter the necessary data there.
Ticket sales thought through to the last detail
From a number of system functions, we want to highlight the simple and efficient purchasing process that we have designed for the new iKatalog. A matter of course is a direct purchase of the tickets connected to the payment gateway of the client and his ERP. Another separate front-end - an internal website designed for ticket sales to the accompanying program at the fair is simplified and user-optimized too. It enables fast customer check-in, including printing of the purchased tickets, which the registered user can find in the mobile application after its purchase.
Tickets sold either online or offline can be managed and further organized in the Dactyl CMS. The advantage of the whole system is that it displays the purchased tickets from various platforms in the user's profile, which is uniform across all platforms.
Scheme of all connected elements in a complex system
Tickets use QR code technology, which the client validates onsite through an internal mobile application designed for this purpose. Because of the optimized UX, the process is fast and efficient. The event operator can also obtain other relevant information from the loaded ticket, thanks to which it is possible to leave the place temporarily and return to the event again.
“We have been working together with Dactyl Group to develop a new mobile application for sharing information about our events, including online services for both visitors and exhibitors. The supplier was able to create the first functional version in a very short time. We have been satisfied with the creative process as the detailed designs of individual screens and their logic are first agreed upon. So before the coding itself, we know exactly what we are going to get.” — Martin Kaspar, CIO, Veletrhy Brno, a.s.
Currently, we are still developing and upgrading the system with new functionalities of individual platforms. Our goal is to always keep the application and web functional and user-friendly for its users and the administrators. The client's trust, who wants to cooperate with us on further development of the project is proof that we are doing it well.
